HERLEIN, REV. NANCY R. Muskegon Reverend Nancy Ruth Herlein, age 67, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, November 7, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer. Nancy was born January 19, 1942 to Merlin Lammert and Grace Sadie (Klemp) Herlein in Muskegon. She earned her Masters Degrees of Education and Divinity and taught for many years at Muskegon Public Schools, retiring in 1995. Nancy was a member of the former Central Reformed Church where she served on the consistory and as the assistant pastor. She was appointed by then Governor Milliken, to serve on the Michigan Tenure Commission, and served as head negotiator for the teachers' union. Nancy loved her family and was known for her generosity and artistic talent. Nancy enjoyed collecting dolls and continued her mother's love of roses and gardening. Nancy also loved animals, especially cats. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and is SURVIVED by her daughter, Mary Herlein of Muskegon; brother, Merlin Robert (Virginia) Herlein of Twin Lake; sister, Doris Herlein of Grand Rapids; 2 brothers-in-law, Richard Rademaker of Muskegon, and Ray Ludwig of Shelby; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Vivian Lorraine Rademaker and Peggy Alice Ludwig. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at: The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 798-1100 with Rev. James Bos officiating.
